Solstice

Today we celebrated Solstice.
This all came about because of our Immigration unit that we just finished. During the course of the study, we discussed where our ancestors came from and how we can honor their traditions. Obviously, with the German side of the family we are covered with German dancing. The kids wanted to know what we did to honor the Irish side of the family. We decided that observing the Solstice would be nice.
The kids came up with what we would do (after some research). We decided that we (the kids) would open one gift from under the tree...

I, by chance, had exactly the ingredients that I needed to make pinecone firestarters...

Watching the firestarters was an amazing viewing opportunity...

They are pretty though...

And if you noticed that Joseph was conspicuously absent from all but the top picture, it is because he sat back in the corner playing with the his marble track all.day.long (the girls did GOOD picking that one out)....
